Want to uncover a story about a co-op or credit union in your community!

The United Nations has declared 2012 The Year of Co-operatives (YAY!!) To celebrate, the Co-operative Enterprise Council of NB (CECNB) is recruiting young people full of curiosity, passion, creativity and artistic skills. Co-operatives have a fascinating history in NB and most people don't even know about it! For example, did you know that:
  • The Sussex Co-op is the oldest co-operative in the entire world?!!!!
  • A group of students started their own co-op theatre company to create work for themselves and it has become one of Moncton's most popular theatres?
  • First nations fishermen recently joined together to establish a fishing co-op that employs local people and invests its profits back into youth and children in their community?
  • A co-op in New Brunswick is building the first virtual map of human knowledge for the Web?

We are young people from across Canada, asking you to listen.

As the arctic is melting before our eyes andas small island nations disappear beneath rising sea levels, we see our government failing to act on the greatest crisis of our time. We are crossing the tipping point, knowing that this is the world that we are inheriting, but we refuse to pass this crisis on to our children.

This is a call to action.

We know that the enormous challenges we currently face are also powerful opportunities, and that the solutions to the climate and energy crisis can also pave the way to recovery from our current economic crisis, through the creation of jobs, a renewed investment in arts, culture and education, and a shift towards an economic and political system that reflects the needs of our generation. Our country must take this chance, protecting all Mother Earth and getting to work on building healthy, fair and sustainable communities.

Biodiversity in New Brunswick

We, the youth of New Brunswick, understand the value and importance of healthy biological diversity in our province to support all living things.  The youth of New Brunswick are extremely concerned about current issues threatening biodiversity in our province.  We strongly believe that immediate action is necessary. We demand that the government recognize that these issues are happening and that they are currently affecting the people of our province. ACTION CANNOT BE PUT ON HOLD!

In light of the current situation, we are making the following recommendations to the New Brunswick government and have included the commitments we are making.

We trust that you will listen to the voice of the youth.
