The New Brunswick Environmental Network (NBEN) is an active communication network of non-profit, citizens’ groups working towards environmental goals in the province. Formed in 1991, the Network today comprises 72 member groups and 21 associate groups. The NBEN is a non-advocacy organization, which means that the Network itself refrains from taking positions on any particular issue.
Joining the Network
By joining, your group gains access to unparalleled support and an ability to help advance your and others’ causes in the environmental movement. The NBEN works to enhance your communications with other environmental groups, government departments, other non-government organizations and other sectors. We:
- create opportunities for collaboration and mutual support;
- coordinate and facilitate province-wide and regional meetings;
- help identify groups’ needs and provide resources for building their capacity and influence.
Caucuses and Collaboratives
Caucuses are issue-based mini-networks that offer groups an opportunity to stay informed and work together on issues of common concern. Joining a caucus can mean anything from receiving and sharing information to participating in campaigns, contributing to caucus planning, and meeting with government departments.
Collaboratives differ in that they involve not just member groups, but a wide variety of organizations and agencies.
For details on each active caucus and collaborative click on Groups in Action on the top menu bar.
Government Consultations and Workshops
The Network is often asked by federal and provincial governments to select or invite representatives or delegates from our member and associate groups for various consultations and workshops.
Meetings in Local Areas
Local meetings bring together environmental groups, other organizations, and concerned citizens to discuss local issues and plan for actions.
An opportunity to network with people from around the province, to plan for the year, to learn more about hot issues, and see a little more of New Brunswick’s places to know.
The NBEN’s On-line Eco Community is for your group to connect, access resources and information, post news, and more.
