Hi everyone – Paul Tukey of Safelawns is working with the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment to proclaim May 6th 2011, which is the 20th anniversary of Hudson Quebec’s cosmetic pesticide bylaw, as Dr. June Irwin Lawn Pesticide Awareness Day. The wording of the proclamation is below. Dan has kindly agreed to give a quote for the press release – thanks, DanJ. They would like at least 100 signatories by Friday. Can you kindly send this to your local or provincial organization/networks, and ask them if they would like to sign on? I am thinking of the nurses and physicians groups, among others. Thanks, Kathryn
Here's the official wording of the proclamation and we're still awaiting quotes from CCS and CAPE to put into the general press release. We'd like to be able to send this out to the national media at 9 a.m. Monday, but will put it up on blogs etc. and any personal press contacts starting on Friday.
"We, the undersigned members of the North American health, environmental, landscape and farming communities, hereby proclaim Friday, May 6, 2011 as Dr. June Irwin Lawn Pesticide Awareness Day in honor of the pioneering doctor's leading role in passage of North America's lawn first pesticide ban in Hudson, Quebec, on May 6, 1991."
Any help you can offer in soliciting other signatories is great.

Dear Colleagues,
Last summer, we notified you in advance of the August 2010 release by Statistics Canada of the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) data on environmental chemicals in Canadians, as well as Health Canada's Report on Human Biomonitoring of Environmental Chemicals in Canada. As you may recall, we informed you that the phthalate data, measured under the CHMS, were not ready for release at that time due to an ongoing data validation exercise by the analytical laboratory. That exercise has been completed and the laboratory is currently preparing a scientific journal article on their findings.
This note is to inform you that on April 1, 2011, Statistics Canada will provide notice in The Daily that the CHMS phthalate data will be made available through their Research Data Centres. Health Canada is planning to add these data as an update to its Report on Human Biomonitoring later this year, pending the laboratory's peer-reviewed publication.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Doug Haines (Doug.Haines@hc-sc.gc.ca; 613-952-2332).
For more information on the CHMS and biomonitoring, please visit the following website:

Madame, Monsieur,

Good question. It is really amazing to imagine doctors speaking out on something like this. They so rarely do. Joanna and I were talking today about how this could integrate into the NBEN website, but I wasn't thinking about CEH - more about shale gas - but obviously the ceh link is strong
